Supreme Court Reinstates Kano Governor, Abba Yusuff
The Supreme Court has overturned a lower court ruling that removed Kano State Governor Yousaf Abba.
The court had declared Governor Abba Yusuf’s 165,663 votes invalid, excluding him from the New Nigeria People’s Party’s victory. The court ruled that the deducted votes came from ballots that were not stamped or signed.
He then went to the Court of Appeals for compensation. The Court of Appeal upheld the court’s decision and declared Nasir Gawna of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the election. When Justice John Okoro arrived at the Supreme Court, he ordered all ballots from which the plaintiffs’ votes were deducted to be returned to the governor.
